What’s Behind the Pacquiao-Mosley Fight

I was able to read a few comments that not every one is excited about the May 7, 2011 Pacquiao vs Mosley match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The way I read about the comments, some people would call the event as Pacquiao-Mosley unmatched. With all that Manny Pacquiao accomplished in his boxing career for the past years, Shane Mosley is not the guy to hit. Unfair but may be true. Perhaps there are things that has not been read or known to some.

Top Rank Promoter Arum revealed in an interview in December of 2010 that Pacquiao chose Mosley because he is more popular than Juan Manuel Marquez and Andre Berto. Being a three division world champion, Pacquiao knows that interest will be drawn to see the match. And according to Trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao should knock out Mosley as early as possible because of what Mosley’s power punches can do. Pacquiao can not be compassionate to Mosley as he was with Margarito.

Perhaps people tell Mosley he is old… but Mosley, in his own right, believes that age is not a factor in this bout. He knows his strengths. He knows what his power punches can do. He knows that he is three times as fast as Margarito. He is not afraid to vocally say “if Margarito can touch him, I can touch him too”. Without much arrogance, Mosley expressed his confidence in this match. As other people would say, Mosley has everything to gain and nothing to lose in this match… money, fame and even friendship with his opponent.

In the interview at the press tour in Las Vegas, no trash talk has been thrown at the opponent. A manifestation of sportsmanship, both of the fighters only had nice things to say about each other.
